We just got back from the Star B Ranch in Ramona, CA! Spent the morning hand picking Cascade and Nugget Hop plugs for some of our upcoming batches! What a blast! It took us about 2 hours total to harvest 3½ pounds (2½ lbs. of Cascade and 1lb. of Nugget). It was a great morning to be a picker! Good thing we got out of there before the heat set in. Eric was really cool and left us in the field to pick as much as we wanted. I wished we would of brought a ladder as the vines were quite high and some of the nice fat plugs were up higher! But we were able to harvest a nice haul and now will let them dry out so I will vacume pack them for future batches. I am going to take some fresh hops and do a batch of Beer with them "Wet" to see what we end up with! Haven't decided what we are going to brew yet. Probably a real Hoppy Pal Ale! Will keep ya posted. Thanks to our buddy Dennis for the intro to Ken and Eric so we were able to get up there and pick this weekend! If you are in San Diego county and want to pick your own Hops, just Google Star B Ranch in Ramona, CA and contact Eric for an appointment. It runs about $16.00 per pound wet. They have Cascade or Nugget available at this time. Stay tuned for the next post to see what we ended up brewing in the next day or two. This will be our annual FRESH Hop Brew and should be awesome!
